International Considerations
When the decedent is a foreign national, it is advisable to contact the foreign national’s closest Embassy or Consulate to report the death. Most Embassies are located in New York City, Washington, DC, or Los Angeles. The Embassy will assist in providing the death notification if the Next of Kin lives in another country.
If a US Citizen is killed abroad, contact the US State Department and they will assist in making the death notification. Federal agencies usually make notification through their attachés office. Please consult your standard operating procedures for guidance.
