More Delivery Pitfall Statements

+ Transcript

Sometimes notifiers want to say anything to the Next of Kin to relieve some pain. However, some statements can be damaging. For example, if you say “He didn’t know what hit him,” do you know this for certain?  By saying, “It's best to remember him the way he was” if they want to view their deceased loved one, it may not be for you to decide. If you tell the Next of Kin that you can’t answer a question, tell them the reason. For example, you may say “This is an ongoing investigation and we are gathering as much information as possible.” Avoid religious phrases such as “It must have been his time” or “God needed another angel.”  Don’t say, “Think of all your happy memories” as the Next of Kin may have many happy memories of their loved one but they wish their loved one was still there so they can make many more.
